1. When to start your preparation?

This is an open blog so I am assuming that you are a student studying B. Pharmacy right now and a question that most of my juniors ask me is when do I start studying for GPAT exam?

There isn’t a definitive answer for that but there are a few points I would like you to consider:

If you’re a First/Second Year student, then it is a very big deal that you know about GPAT exam and you are thinking about it from such a early start. You should be proud of yourself because you are on the right path. At this age you don’t have to really prepare for GPAT but this is the right time to study all the concepts in all the subjects and build a strong base and foundation for yourself. Read good textbooks, watch online videos and understand everything that is in your syllabus for now. This is going to make revision very easy for you when you reach the Third Year/Final Year and start preparing for GPAT. You have to learn to fall in love with your subjects and sincerely study and understand them. Don’t study anything for the sake of writing the University exam and to pass in that subject because that is going to harm you in the long run.

If you’re a Third Year student, then it this is the perfect time for you because I myself started my preparation when I was in the 6th semester. Although I believe that you should start your preparation right from the beginning of Third Year since you’ve already studied Pharmacy for 2 years now. You have learned all the basic subjects like HAP, Organic Chemistry, Physical Pharmacy, Microbiology, Pathophysiology, Biochemistry, Introductory Analysis, etc (depends on what your syllabus is because mine was prescribed by Pune University and not by PCI). You have this base and on that you will be building up and studying the more advanced subjects like Pharmacology, Medicinal Chemistry, Analysis etc. Now is the right time to study for the subjects that you have in your ongoing semester while also revising and preparing your notes for GPAT exam as per the syllabus of GPAT.

If you’re in Final Year, don’t get too tensed because if you have been a regular student who has attended college and understood each subject in all of the semesters then with a little bit of hard work you can prepare for GPAT and attempt the exam too.

I started preparing for GPAT in Feb ’19 and that was 11 months before the GPAT exam that was scheduled on 28th Jan ’20. I had been a sincere student so far because I genuinely fell in love with Pharmacy and all the varied and interesting topics it had to offer.

I was not an exam topper in my college but I always had good grades and was in ‘distinction’ class so that background helped in my preparation.
